Tangavatn Dam forms part of the water storage system serving Mjolkar Hydropower Plant in the Westfjords. Tangavatn storage was developed during construction of Mjolka II in the 1970s.

The reservoir lies at an elevation of approximately 560 metres above sea level and provides about 1.2 GL of storage. Water from the reservoir is conveyed through long pressure pipes towards the power station.
