Desjara Dam is one of three dams that form Halslon, the main reservoir of the Karahnjukar hydropower development. It is located east of Karahnjukar Dam below Fremri Karahnjukur.
The dam reaches a maximum height of 68 metres and is approximately 1,100 metres long. Around 2.9 million cubic metres of fill material were used in its construction. Together with Karahnjukar Dam and Saudardalur Dam, it retains Halslon, which covers about 63 square kilometres when full.
Water from the reservoir is carried through tunnels beneath Fljotsdalsheidi to Fljotsdalur Power Station.
