Ósvör is a reconstructed traditional fishing station in Bolungarvík in the Westfjords, offering a unique insight into Iceland’s early fishing heritage.
For centuries, fishermen rowed from Ósvör in open boats, facing some of the harshest sea conditions in the country. The station consisted of turf huts, fish-drying racks, and working buildings that formed a complete fishing outpost.
The site was carefully rebuilt in the late 20th century based on historical records and archaeological evidence, preserving the appearance and layout of a traditional Icelandic fishing station.
Today, Ósvör operates as an open-air maritime museum, where visitors can explore the turf huts, learn about early fishing techniques, and experience the demanding life of Icelandic fishermen.
