The Súðavík avalanche occurred on January 16, 1995 and is one of the deadliest natural disasters in Iceland.
The avalanche descended from Mount Traðarhyrna and struck the village of Súðavík in the Westfjords. A total of 14 people lost their lives.
The tragedy led to major advances in avalanche research and protection throughout Iceland.
