About West Reykjadalir Geothermal Area
West Reykjadalir is one of the defined subareas of the Torfajokull high-temperature geothermal system. It lies west of Landmannalaugar in varied rhyolite and lava terrain where geothermal activity appears as steam, hot ground and altered rock. Torfajokull is Iceland's largest high-temperature geothermal area, and the Reykjadalir valleys are among the zones with the most continuous surface activity. Access is limited and travel requires careful preparation.
