About East Reykjadalir Geothermal Area
East Reykjadalir is one of the six principal subareas of the extensive Torfajokull high-temperature geothermal system. It contains continuous and varied geothermal activity, including fumaroles, mud pots, hot-water springs and colourful alteration. The area lies in high rhyolite terrain west of Landmannalaugar and extends toward Jokultungur. East Reykjadalir is remote and access requires highland travel and hiking.
