About Jokultungur Geothermal Area
Jokultungur is one of the six principal subareas of the Torfajokull high-temperature geothermal system, located south of Jokulgil and west of Kaldaklofsfjoll. Geothermal activity from East Reykjadalir extends south into Jokultungur, with hot ground, steam and colourful alteration across rugged highland terrain. The area is remote and has virtually no visitor infrastructure, making it suitable only for well-prepared travellers with highland experience.
