Álftavatn

Álftavatn is located along the Laugavegur trail, the famous hiking route between Landmannalaugar and Þórsmörk. The lake lies in an open and sparsely vegetated landscape characterized by wide views and a sense of calm.

A mountain hut operated by the Icelandic Touring Association is situated at Álftavatn and serves as an important stop for hikers on the Laugavegur. The huts were built in 1979 and can accommodate approximately 58 people. The hut and nearby campsite are popular with trekkers exploring the Icelandic Highlands.

Álftavatn is a well-known rest point along the Laugavegur trail, offering scenic surroundings, open landscapes, and a peaceful atmosphere, making it an ideal place to rest and recharge during a long day of hiking.
