Torfajökull is a small glacier within one of the most colourful and geothermally active regions of the Icelandic Highlands. It lies inside a large volcanic and caldera system characterised by rhyolite mountains, obsidian, hot springs and geothermal areas. The interaction between ice, volcanism and geothermal activity makes the Torfajökull region one of Iceland's most distinctive geological landscapes.
