Thvera Dam is an earthfill dam at Lake Thidriksvallavatn in Steingrimsfjordur and is the principal storage structure for Thvera Hydropower Plant. The original dam was constructed in 1952–1953, while the present dam was built during reconstruction of the power scheme around the year 2000.
The modern dam is approximately 550 metres long and reaches a maximum height of about 22 metres. Its construction raised the lake level by roughly six metres, increasing the surface area of Thidriksvallavatn to around 2.7 square kilometres and the storage capacity to approximately 25.3 GL.
