Samsstadaklif Dam is part of the water-management structures associated with Bjarnalon and Burfell Power Station in the Thjorsa region. Bjarnalon forms part of the water supply system for the power station and is connected to several dams and other hydraulic structures in the area.

Burfell Power Station uses water from the Thjorsa river and forms part of one of Iceland's largest interconnected hydropower systems.
