Viti in Askja is an explosion crater inside the Askja caldera in the highlands north of Vatnajokull. It formed during the major volcanic events of 1875 and is one of the best-known natural features of the Askja region. The crater contains a lake and geothermal heat has influenced its surroundings. Viti lies close to Lake Oskjuvatn and is a popular destination when highland roads are open. The site is within Vatnajokull National Park, and access can be restricted by snow, road conditions and safety considerations.
