Drekagil is a rugged and atmospheric canyon in the Dyngjufjöll mountains near Askja in Iceland's central Highlands. Dark volcanic formations, sparse vegetation and steep canyon walls give the area the raw appearance that characterises the Askja landscape.

A mountain hut and traveller facilities are located near the entrance to the canyon, and a walking route leads farther into the gorge. Deeper inside is a waterfall known as Drekafoss or Skínandi. The walk provides a close look at the distinctive volcanic geology of Dyngjufjöll.

Drekagil is located in the Highlands, so access is strongly dependent on season, road conditions and weather. Travellers should always check current highland road conditions and be prepared for rapidly changing weather.
