Discover Iceland
Streitis Lighthouse stands at Streitishorn in East Iceland. The first lighthouse at the site was erected in 1922, while the present concrete lighthouse was built in 1984 after an earlier light at Hlaða was destroyed in severe weather.
The current lighthouse is an approximately 12-metre-high octagonal concrete tower designed by engineer Steingrímur Arason. The site is part of the maritime landscape of East Iceland and offers a connection to the region's history of coastal navigation.
The first lighthouse at Streitishvarf was built in 1922 and remained in service until 1958. The present Streitis Lighthouse was built in 1984. The surrounding area is now a popular outdoor recreation site.
