About Stóragjá at Lake Mývatn
Stóragjá is a volcanic fissure and lava cave near Reykjahlíð at Lake Mývatn. The fissure lies within an active volcanic and tectonic landscape and contains geothermally heated water. It can be reached on foot and forms part of walking routes connecting Reykjahlíð, Grjótagjá and Hverfjall. Access down into the fissure itself can be steep and requires care.

Visit tips
Use considerable caution when descending into the fissure. Access is steep and may involve ladders, ropes and slippery rock. The water should not be treated as a conventional bathing pool.
