About Bjarnarflag Geothermal Area
Bjarnarflag is a high-temperature geothermal area in the Lake Myvatn region, west of Namafjall, where geothermal activity has long influenced both the landscape and local energy use. The geothermal system is associated with the active Krafla volcanic system, and the area contains visible geothermal features as well as boreholes and energy infrastructure. Bjarnarflag offers an interesting look at the relationship between volcanism, geothermal heat and energy utilisation in Iceland. Visitors should respect signs, closures and restricted areas.
