About Hverir Geothermal Area
Hverarond at Namafjall is one of North Iceland's best-known geothermal areas. Visitors can see boiling mud pots, powerful steam vents, sulphur deposits and mineral-rich ground in striking colours. The site forms part of the active Namafjall geothermal system, and the hottest areas are almost completely barren. Hverarond is easily reached from the main road and is a popular stop in the Lake Myvatn region. Visitors should remain on marked paths because the crust can be thin and temperatures extremely high.
