Gjögur Lighthouse was first established in 1921 at the tip of Gjögurtá by Hákarlavogur. The previous structure collapsed during a storm on 15 December 2023. It was rebuilt in 2024 as a 24-metre-high three-legged self-supporting steel lattice mast on concrete foundations.
