Churches of Iceland
Stóra Dals Church stands by the farm Stóri-Dalur in South Iceland, a short drive beyond the turn toward Seljalandsfoss. The site has a long church history, with written references reaching back to medieval times.
The present church was consecrated in 1969 after construction during the 1960s. It was designed by architect Ragnar Emilsson and replaced earlier timber churches that had stood within the churchyard. The church therefore reflects both the long religious history of the farm and the more modern architecture of the present building.
