Sandvík Bay is a coastal or beach area in East Iceland, shaped by open shoreline, sea views and the surrounding landscape. Tides, light and weather can change the character of the coast significantly, making each visit look and feel different. The visit can be combined with Neskaupstaður and Norðfjarðarviti . Around Icelandic coasts, always keep a safe distance from strong surf and pay close attention to local conditions.

The place can form part of a wider trip through East Iceland, combining naturally with other landscape, heritage and travel experiences depending on interests and season.

Safety

Access is on foot through mountainous terrain. The marked route from Stuðlar crosses Sandvíkurskarð at approximately 500 metres elevation. Visitors should be prepared for a mountain hike and changing weather.

Sandvík by Gerpir is a remote inlet that once contained Iceland's easternmost settlement. A marked trail leads from Stuðlar through Sandvíkurskarð to the bay and takes approximately three hours.
