About Olkelduhals Geothermal Area
Olkelduhals is a geothermal area in the Hengill region, close to Hveragerdi and Reykjadalur. The area contains varied signs of geothermal activity, including hot ground, steam and mineral deposits. Olkelduhals forms part of the large and active Hengill volcanic system, where volcanism, fissures and geothermal heat have shaped the landscape. It is particularly interesting for hikers and visitors wanting to explore Hengill geology away from the busiest attractions. Care is required around hot and unstable geothermal ground.
