About Hverahlid Geothermal Area
Hverahlid is a geothermal area within the Hengill and Hellisheidi region of Southwest Iceland. High-temperature geothermal resources occur beneath the surface and the area is connected with geothermal utilisation in the wider Hengill system. The landscape is characterised by hyaloclastite mountains, lava and signs of geothermal activity. Hverahlid is not developed as a conventional attraction like Geysir or Seltun, but it is an interesting part of the extensive Hengill geothermal system. Visitors should respect work areas, closures and signs.
