Veiðileysufjörður

Veiðileysufjörður is one of the Jökulfjörðir in the Westfjords of Iceland. It lies between Hesteyrarfjörður and Lónafjörður, north of Ísafjarðardjúp.

The fjord is approximately eight kilometres long and is the largest of the Jökulfjörðir. Steep mountains rise on both sides, creating a dramatic and remote landscape.

There has been no permanent settlement in the fjord in modern times. However, a former whaling station once stood at Meleyri, reflecting the area’s early industrial history.

Today, Veiðileysufjörður remains largely untouched and attracts visitors seeking solitude, raw nature, and a glimpse into one of the most remote regions of the Westfjords.
