About Kisubotnar Geothermal Area
Kisubotnar is a geothermal area in Kerlingarfjoll and one of the defined high-temperature geothermal zones of the mountain range. It lies in rugged and colourful highland terrain where geothermal processes have altered rock and soil. Kisubotnar receives far fewer visitors than Lower Hveradalir and has little visitor infrastructure. The area is within the Kerlingarfjoll nature reserve, where fragile geothermal ground and vegetation must be protected.
