Hveradalir is one of Iceland’s most active and colorful geothermal areas, located in the Kerlingarfjöll mountains in the highlands. The area is characterized by steaming vents, mud pots, sulfur colors, and continuous geothermal activity.

Geothermal areas are both beautiful and fragile. Stay on marked paths and respect closures, as the ground can be thin and extremely hot just below the surface.

To place the stop in the wider context of a trip through the region, see Landmannalaugar and other destinations in the same part of Iceland.
