Discover Iceland
Kirkjugólf (Church Floor) is a natural attraction in South Iceland. Kirkjugólf is a natural basalt-column formation in a field just east of Kirkjubæjarklaustur. The exposed tops of the basalt columns resemble a tiled church floor, which gave the site its name. Despite the appearance, it is a geological formation rather than a man-made floor.
The site is part of Iceland's varied natural landscape and can be combined with other nearby nature stops. Visitors should respect local conditions, marked routes and sensitive terrain. While exploring South Iceland, it can also be useful to browse places around Selfoss and plan nearby stops as part of the same route.
Kirkjugólf er náttúruperla.
