Illugastaðir is a coastal or beach area in Northwest Iceland, shaped by open shoreline, sea views and the surrounding landscape. Tides, light and weather can change the character of the coast significantly, making each visit look and feel different. The visit can be combined with Hvammstangi and Illugastaðir Coast . Around Icelandic coasts, always keep a safe distance from strong surf and pay close attention to local conditions.

The place can form part of a wider trip through North Iceland, combining naturally with other landscape, heritage and travel experiences depending on interests and season.

Safety

The area is closed to visitors every year from 1 May to 20 June to protect nesting eider ducks. Respect the closure and keep a safe and respectful distance from seals.
