Hauganes

Hauganes is a small and charming coastal village on the shores of Eyjafjörður, located about 22 kilometers north of Akureyri and roughly 12 kilometers south of Dalvík. The village has around 140 residents and lies along Árskógsströnd, within the municipality of Dalvíkurbyggð.

Fishing and maritime activities have long been central to life in Hauganes. Several small fishing companies and boat operators are based in the village, and proximity to productive fishing grounds has shaped the community over generations. While most services are accessed in Akureyri, Hauganes retains a strong local identity and close-knit community life.

Boreholes in the area are connected to the district heating system of Dalvík and play an important role in local energy use. The surrounding area offers a variety of nearby points of interest. These include Árskógssandur, with its church, school, and ferry connections to Hrísey. Additional recreational and cultural opportunities can be found in nearby villages such as Grenivík and Hjalteyri, both within a short driving distance.

Rising above the area is Kaldbakur, the highest mountain in Eyjafjörður, which dominates the skyline.
