History

Grímsey Lighthouse stands at the southeastern corner of Grímsey. It was built in 1937 to a design by engineer Benedikt Jónasson and is 9.6 metres high. The lighthouse originally used gas lighting but is now electrified and automated.

Visitor information

Visitors cannot enter the lighthouse, but the site offers good views of the cliffs and birdlife along the eastern coast of Grímsey.
