Grænagil is a colourful canyon near Landmannalaugar, situated between Bláhnúkur and the Laugahraun lava field. It forms part of the distinctive rhyolite landscape of Fjallabak, where green, red, yellow and grey rock colours create striking contrasts.

The name Grænagil is associated with the green tones visible in the rock near the base of Bláhnúkur. The canyon is popular with hikers and can easily be combined with routes around Laugahraun, Bláhnúkur and other attractions in the Landmannalaugar area.

The area lies in the Icelandic Highlands and access therefore depends strongly on season and road conditions. Weather can change rapidly, so current conditions should always be checked before travelling.
