Geitland Nature Reserve is a large protected highland area in West Iceland. The reserve was established in 1988 and covers more than 122 km².
Its purpose is to preserve a largely undisturbed highland landscape, geological formations and natural ecosystems. Mountains, lava fields and open wilderness dominate the scenery.
Geitland offers an opportunity to experience a quieter and more remote side of West Iceland. Travellers exploring the wider Borgarfjörður region can also visit Paradísarlaut.
Visitors should respect the wilderness and avoid off-road driving or other unnecessary disturbance. Conditions can be demanding and good preparation is essential.
