About Fremrinamar Geothermal Area
Fremrinamar is a remote high-temperature geothermal area in the highlands of Northeast Iceland. It belongs to an active volcanic system and contains evidence of powerful geothermal activity, although it receives far fewer visitors than better-known areas such as Namafjall and Krafla. The landscape is barren and visitor infrastructure is limited. Fremrinamar is therefore particularly interesting as a geological and natural area. Travel requires careful preparation, a suitable vehicle and respect for the fragile highland environment.
