Brúnavík is a coastal or beach area in East Iceland, shaped by open shoreline, sea views and the surrounding landscape. Tides, light and weather can change the character of the coast significantly, making each visit look and feel different. The visit can be combined with Borgarfjörður eystri and Bakkagerði Church . Around Icelandic coasts, always keep a safe distance from strong surf and pay close attention to local conditions.

The place can form part of a wider trip through East Iceland, combining naturally with other landscape, heritage and travel experiences depending on interests and season.

Safety

The hike to Brúnavík is approximately 12 km return and takes around 5–6 hours. Reaching the beach involves crossing the river near its mouth.

Brúnavík is a deserted inlet south of Borgarfjörður Eystri. A marked trail crosses Brúnavíkurskarð and descends towards the abandoned farm and the colourful beach.
