Austurkvisl Dam forms part of the fifth and final stage of the Kvislaveita diversion system in Iceland's central Highlands. It was constructed together with Thjorsa Dam and the Thjorsa canal when upper tributaries of the Thjorsa east of Hofsjokull were diverted into Kvislaveita.
The development created Thjorsarlon reservoir, from which water is conveyed through the diversion system towards Lake Thorisvatn. The fifth stage of Kvislaveita was completed in the autumn of 1997.
