About Austurengjar Geothermal Area
Austurengjar is a geothermal area within the Krysuvik volcanic system on the Reykjanes Peninsula. Surface features include steam, hot ground and colourful geothermal mineral deposits. The area has less visitor infrastructure than nearby Seltun and therefore retains a wilder character. Austurengjar forms part of the broader active volcanic and fissure system of Krysuvik. Geothermal surfaces can be fragile and unstable, so visitors should take care and respect signs, guidance and closures.
