Skálavík Beach is a coastal or beach area in the Westfjords, shaped by open shoreline, sea views and the surrounding landscape. Tides, light and weather can change the character of the coast significantly, making each visit look and feel different. The visit can be combined with Suðureyri and Langidal Coast . Around Icelandic coasts, always keep a safe distance from strong surf and pay close attention to local conditions.

The place can form part of a wider trip through the Westfjords, combining naturally with other landscape, heritage and travel experiences depending on interests and season.

Safety

Access to Skálavík can depend on weather and road conditions.

Skálavík is a remote inlet west of Bolungarvík. Its sandy beach is popular with locals for walking and outdoor recreation on pleasant summer days. Permanent settlement ended around the 1960s, although several houses have since been restored and summer houses built.
