Salthöfði and Salthöfðamýrar form a protected wetland and coastal area in Southeast Iceland. The reserve was established in 1977 and covers just over 2.3 km². Its purpose is to protect wetlands, coastal landscapes and important birdlife.
The combination of wetlands, coastline and vegetation creates diverse habitats for birds. The area is particularly interesting for visitors who enjoy birdwatching and relatively undisturbed coastal nature.
A visit can be combined with other natural attractions in Southeast Iceland, including Ingólfshöfði Nature Reserve. Further east lies Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, one of the region's best-known natural attractions.
Visitors should avoid disturbing wetlands or birds and take particular care around nesting areas during sensitive seasons.
