Rjukandi Waterfall

Rjúkandi is an attractive waterfall in East Iceland that descends in several stages from the mountains above Jökuldalur. Its location close to Route 1 makes it one of the easiest waterfalls to visit while travelling through eastern Iceland. The water cascades down a series of dark rock ledges and can be seen from the surrounding area. A short walk from the roadside parking area provides a closer view of the falls. Rjúkandi makes a convenient stop when travelling between Egilsstaðir, Möðrudalur and northeast Iceland. The waterfall can be particularly impressive after rainfall and during periods of strong spring runoff. Visitors should wear suitable footwear and take care on wet or slippery paths.
