Héraðssandur is a coastal or beach area in East Iceland, shaped by open shoreline, sea views and the surrounding landscape. Tides, light and weather can change the character of the coast significantly, making each visit look and feel different.
The visit can be combined with Borgarfjörður eystri and Stapavík by Héraðsflói. Around Icelandic coasts, always keep a safe distance from strong surf and pay close attention to local conditions.
Héraðssandur is an extensive black-sand coast at Héraðsflói. From the Stapavík walking route, the beach opens north of the mouth of Selfljót with views towards Hellisheiði Eystri.
