Djúpihellir is a lava cave located in the Strompahraun lava field, an area known for its many lava caves. The cave is approximately 260 meters long and is notable for its wide passages and relatively high ceiling near the entrance.

At least two large openings can be found in the ceiling of the cave, located about 15 meters above the cave floor. Djúpihellir is also unusual in that it extends across several levels. Inside the cave, a basic ladder can be used to access higher sections.

Further inside the cave, ropes have been installed for those who wish to climb higher and continue exploring. To reach the very end of the cave, visitors must crawl or climb through a narrow opening.

Finding the cave is relatively straightforward. Upon reaching the main area at Bláfjöll, it is best to drive along the old road located on the opposite side of the main parking area. Looking toward the hillside below the road, a sign can be seen marking the location of the cave. Numerous lava caves are found throughout this area.
