Björk Guðmundsdóttir is an Icelandic musician, singer, songwriter, composer and producer, born in Reykjavík on 21 November 1965. She began making music at a young age and released her first album in 1977. During the 1980s she became part of Iceland's punk and alternative music scene and later gained international attention as the singer of The Sugarcubes, whose debut album Life's Too Good was released in 1988. After The Sugarcubes, Björk launched an international solo career. Her 1993 album Debut established a distinctive musical direction that has continued to combine pop, electronic music, experimental sounds, orchestration, voices and unconventional production. Her best-known albums include Post, Homogenic, Vespertine, Medúlla, Biophilia, Vulnicura, Utopia and Fossora. Her work is also recognised for its strong visual identity and collaborations with artists, designers, filmmakers and musicians from around the world. Over several decades Björk has become one of Iceland's most internationally recognised artists and an influential figure in experimental pop and electronic music.
