Æðey is an island in Ísafjarðardjúp in the Westfjords, best known for one of the largest eider duck colonies in Iceland.
The island has been inhabited for centuries and traditional eider farming is still practised today. Eiderdown has long been a valuable resource, and protecting the birds is central to life on the island.
