Aðalstræti is the oldest street in Reykjavík, located in the heart of the city centre. Archaeological discoveries along the street confirm continuous settlement dating back to the Viking Age.
The street is home to Reykjavík’s oldest preserved buildings, including Aðalstræti 10, built in 1762 and considered the oldest standing residential house in Iceland.
Today, Aðalstræti is a lively pedestrian street featuring restaurants, shops, museums, and cultural venues.
