Selvallafoss is a beautiful and relatively little-known waterfall on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, close to Selvallavatn and the Vatnaleið mountain road. The waterfall is located on the Fossá stream and descends through several rocky tiers before continuing towards Selvallavatn. One of the most enjoyable features of Selvallafoss is that it is possible to walk behind part of the waterfall and experience the falling water from a completely different perspective. The green and rugged surroundings also make it an excellent location for photography. Selvallafoss is considerably quieter than many of the best-known attractions on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, making it a rewarding stop for visitors looking for a beautiful place away from the busiest tourist sites. Care should be taken when approaching or walking behind the waterfall, as rocks, soil and grass can become very wet and slippery, particularly after rain or in freezing conditions.
