Pollengi and Tunguey Nature Reserve is a protected wetland and floodplain area in South Iceland, situated between the rivers Hvítá and Tungufljót. Wet meadows, waterways and natural vegetation create important habitats for birds and other wildlife.
The reserve was established in 1994 and covers approximately 6.6 km². Its main purpose is to protect the natural wetlands and birdlife of the area. Bird hunting is prohibited and parts of the reserve can be difficult to access when water levels are high.
The reserve lies close to the Hvítá River. Visitors exploring this part of South Iceland can also visit Laugarás Lagoon and other attractions in the surrounding countryside.
Visitors should take care around wet ground, avoid disturbing birds and be aware that marked paths and visitor facilities may be limited.
