Laugaland on Hákallaströnd

Laugaland is a geothermal area on Hákallaströnd in Reykhólar municipality in the southern Westfjords. The farm name is associated with the geothermal springs found in the area, both close to the farm and along the shoreline.

The geothermal activity at Laugaland is considerable. Official geothermal records document several hot springs in the area. One spring has been measured at approximately 75°C, while others near the farm have been measured at around 64–65°C. Geothermal water has been used for heating buildings and was previously used to supply a swimming pool.

The geothermal springs along the shoreline are particularly interesting, where geothermal activity interacts with the coastal environment and tidal conditions.

Please note: Laugaland should not be considered a conventional public hot spring for bathing. The geothermal area is on private land and some of the water can be dangerously hot. Visitors should not enter pools or geothermal water without permission from the landowner and without first checking local conditions and water temperature.

No formal tourist bathing facilities, such as changing rooms, showers or toilets, are confirmed at the geothermal area.
