Krosslaug – Westfjords Hot Pool

Krosslaug in the Westfjords is a small geothermal hot pool at Laugarnes near Birkimelur on Barðaströnd. The pool lies close to the shoreline and offers wide views across Breiðafjörður and the surrounding mountains.

A small concrete swimming pool, commonly known as Laugarneslaug or Birkimelur Swimming Pool, is located at the same site. Krosslaug is the smaller and more natural-looking pool closer to the sea, allowing visitors to soak in geothermal water while enjoying views over the fjord.

Geothermal water has long been used in this area and Krosslaug forms part of the bathing tradition of Barðaströnd. The remote location and quiet surroundings make it a peaceful stop in the southern Westfjords.

Basic changing facilities are available at the site, which is maintained locally. A donation box is located by the changing area and visitors are encouraged to contribute towards maintenance.

The swimming facilities at Laugarnes generally operate during the summer season. Access and services can change, so visitors should check current information before travelling.

Krosslaug in the Westfjords should not be confused with the historic Krosslaug, also known as Reykjalaug, in Lundarreykjadalur in West Iceland.
