Brúarfoss is a farm and former settlement located on the eastern bank of the Hítará river, close to the main road across the Mýrar area in Borgarfjörður, West Iceland. The site takes its name from Brúarfoss, a nearby waterfall in the Hítará river.
The area around Brúarfoss has long been associated with farming and salmon fishing in the river. The surroundings are characterized by green riverbanks, calm scenery, and the gentle flow of Hítará as it winds through the landscape.
Jóhannes Jósefsson, a famous Icelandic glíma champion and the longtime owner of Hotel Borg in Reykjavík, built a fishing lodge at Brúarfoss and used it as his summer residence for many years. His connection to the site adds an interesting cultural and historical dimension.
Today, Brúarfoss is an appealing stop for travelers exploring the Mýrar region, offering a blend of natural beauty and local history in the Borgarfjörður area.
