Ásabrekka Forest in Ásahreppur

Ásabrekka is a small, well-maintained woodland on the Áshóll property in South Iceland. Covering approximately 2.2 hectares, it is ideal for short walks, family outings and peaceful breaks among the trees.

Forestry history

The area was fenced in 1954 after brothers Stefán and Ingvaldur Ólafsson donated land for forestry. Planting took place between 1954 and 1959, with further planting in 1988. Approximately 16,000 to 17,000 trees were planted in total.

Trees and vegetation

Birch and Sitka spruce grow on the slopes, while pine, larch and other species were planted on flatter ground. The woodland has been thinned and many tree species are labelled for visitors.

Walking and facilities

A pleasant circular trail passes through the forest and is suitable for easy walks. Information signs, benches and picnic tables make Ásabrekka an inviting place for outdoor recreation.
