Mosfell Church

Mosfell Church is located in Mosfellsdalur and belongs to the Mosfell Parish within the Kjalarnes Deanery. The church was consecrated on 4 April 1965.

The church was a gift from Stefán Þorláksson and operates as an independent foundation. In his will, Stefán granted the church rights to geothermal water, which has provided a stable source of income for its upkeep and development.

Mosfell Church is regarded as one of the best-equipped churches in Iceland, with excellent facilities for services, music and community events.

A historic copper bell hangs in the chancel, to the left of the altar as one enters the church. The bell is rung during all church ceremonies and is among the church’s most distinctive features.
